It’s been a busy few days in Bangkok for the WinGD Ltd. team, both on stage and across the show floor.
We’ve already heard from our experts on LNG engine technology, integrated energy management, wind-assisted propulsion and the journey taking ammonia-fuelled two-stroke engines into commercial operation. And while our technical presentations may be complete, the conversations certainly aren’t.
The WinGD team will be at Stand M11 for the rest of Gastech, ready to discuss everything from LNG, methanol, ethanol and ammonia to fuel flexibility, efficiency, retrofit opportunities and lifecycle support.
If you’re in Bangkok this week, come and see us.

WinGD Ltd. has secured an order for four X72DF-M-1.0 engines to power Polaris Shipping’s future 210,000 DWT Newcastlemax ore carriers, giving the vessels the flexibility to operate on both methanol and ethanol.
With fuel availability, pricing and regulation continuing to evolve, the ability to operate on either alcohol fuel gives shipowners greater choice over the lifetime of a vessel – without having to predict today which fuel will make the most commercial and operational sense in the years ahead.
The four vessels will be built at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co in China 🇨🇳, with delivery scheduled for 2031.
The order further strengthens WinGD’s growing alternative-fuel portfolio across LNG, methanol, ethanol and ammonia, as these technologies move increasingly into vessel construction and commercial operation.

🤝 Partnership and progress: Reflections from SMM 2026
Looking back at SMM 2026, one theme seemed to come through in almost every conversation: partnership and collaboration.
The scale of the challenge facing shipping means no one company, technology or part of the value chain can deliver the transition alone. Progress depends on engine designers, shipowners, shipyards, fuel suppliers and many others working together, sharing expertise and turning ambition into practical solutions.
That is very much at the heart of WinGD Ltd.’s mission: powering the transformation towards a sustainable future.
SMM was a great reminder that while technology is critical, it is the partnerships behind it that will ultimately help move the industry forward.
👏 A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the WinGD stand, joined the conversations and shared their perspectives with our team in Hamburg.

How does the economics of retrofitting existing vessels for alternative fuels stack up as shipping moves towards net zero?
WinGD’s latest Fuel Economics Report models a 16,000 TEU container vessel retrofitted in 2030 for LNG, methanol or ammonia using WinGD’s high-pressure dual-fuel engine technologies.
Under the assumptions modelled, all three retrofit pathways outperform continued VLSFO operation over the vessel lifetime on costs and emissions reduction.
LNG delivers the strongest and earliest financial return, with the best-performing pathway, while ammonia and bio-methanol deliver substantially deeper emissions reductions but require longer payback periods.
The study also highlights that retrofit CAPEX itself is not the dominant factor in the business case. Fuel price, fuel GHG intensity and regulatory treatment have a much greater influence on lifetime economics.
The findings underline the potential for alternative-fuel retrofits, while also showing why stronger policy support will be important in making the pathways offering the deepest emissions reductions commercially attractive.
